The University Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg (UMCH) is an accredited Hamburg- based branch of the Romanian State University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology Targu Mures (UMFST). Every year, up to 150 students are given the opportunity to begin their medical studies in Germany – without a perfect high college degree or and without a waiting period. The studies at UMCH’s Campus in Hamburg take place in English and last a total of 6 years. The practical part,
which takes place in various teaching hospitals throughout Germany, is carried out in German.
You will study at a campus in Hamburg that was newly established in 2018 and receive a holistic,
practice and patient-oriented medical education from the very beginning. You will also benefit from

Medical Studies in English at the University of Medicine
Our 12-week College Semester is aimed at all those who, in addition to refreshing their knowledge from college, want to acquire additional medical know-how and prepare themselves in as much detail as possible for the admission procedure at UMCH. Besides biology, chemistry and physics, students are also taught in other areas that are important for medical studies. These include mathematics, biochemistry, anatomy and medical theory
The advantage in knowledge gained will give you self-confidence and motivation. In the course of the College Semester, which is the foundation for your successful medical studies, you will acquire a considerable amount of scientific knowledge. This advantage will later be essential for your studies.
Experienced Lectures
UMCH’s preparatory courses are taught by international, highly-qualifi ed lecturers who have extensive experience in teaching students. They teach you the basics for a successful medical study with proven quality.
Participation in a UMCH pre-medical preparatory course is not a requirement for admissions to UMCH in Hamburg or the UMFST of Targu Mures. However, we strongly recommend that you attend one of the preparatory courses in order to prepare yourself as well as possible for the sciences and to have an easier transition into medical college.
Admission requirements for Indian students:
- High-School Diploma from one of the three following options:
- Senior School Certificate (AISSC) issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
- Indian School Certificate (ISC) issues by the Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE)
- Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC): Intermediate Certificate, Pre-University Certificate
- Statements of Marks (9th to 12th grade)
- Minimum score for high-school final exam: 70%
- Subjects required: Biology, Chemistry and Physics with each subject passed in the 12th year with a minimum of 70%

At the time of the application you find yourself in highschool or have already graduated and a high-school leaving certificate/diploma can be provided. The high-school leaving certificate/diploma must allow you the access to higher education in the country of origin. If you are currently attending high-school in a NON-EU country or have already obtained your degree in a NON-EU country, please check with the UMCH Admission Team for the respective application requirements.
In order to start your application at UMCH, please follow the steps mentioned below as described:
Register online over the Application Portal
Create your Applicant Profile by clicking the button – Become an applicant. Please note that all the fields required to complete your profile need to be filled in. All the information provided here (contact information, high-school details etc.) will be used by the UMCH Admission Team during the admission process.
Upload application documents
All the documents mentioned below are mandatory, therefore please upload them as PDF files (scanned copies of the original) into your online application profile:
- Personal statement
In English (Calibri font, font size 11, 250-300 words) that answers at least two of the following questions:
• Who / what influenced your decision to apply to a medical school?
• What will you do to become a good student/doctor?
• What plans and visions do you have with your medical education?
• Which of your extracurricular activities have influenced you the most and why?
• What is your favourite book and how has it influenced you?
• Are there any extraordinary/unusual circumstances in your life, that would make us consider
your application in a different light?
• Describe the environment, in which you have lived so far, and tell us, what you would like to change about it.

Study diploma/certificate (High-school leaving certificate/diploma, i.e. Abiturzeugnis, IB Diploma, Baccalaureate or others)

- Passport or Identity card : ID- both sides; Passport -pages 1-4
- High-school transcript of record from the 9th until 12th grade (13th grade)

As soon as all the documents mentioned above have been uploaded, please “SUBMIT” your application. Please note that if your application has not been submitted, we will not be able to take it into consideration, or for that matter see whether you have uploaded any documents or not. Therefore, we recommend you pay attention to this step. In case of any doubts you can contact the UMCH Admission Team to double check whether your application has been successfully submitted or not
Once all the documents will be checked by the UMCH Admission Team you will receive an invitation to participate at the Admission Evaluation and Selection Interview. The next official scheduled admission dates on the campus in Hamburg can be checked over our website: edu.umch.de/en/admissions.
If you cannot attend any of these official dates, please contact the UMCH Admisison Team to schedule an individual appointment or get more information about the possibility of taking the admission evaluation in your home town.
After the Admission Evaluation and the Selection Interview, the results will be submitted over e-mail. If the application at UMCH Campus Hamburg has been successful, the last step would be to provide a few documents in a specific format in order to consider your application completed.
Depending on the country of origin of your high-school leaving certificate, different requirements might apply.
All application documents must be submitted as individual copies authenticated by a notary public. If the original document is not issued in Romanian or English language, individual translated copies of the original document authenticated by a notary public will be necessary.
The specific format of the requirements for German, EU and NON-EU application documents will be announced to you after you have been accepted as a student.
